Easter Seals’ Family Resources Project provides free of charge referrals, navigation, counseling and advocacy services for children and young adults 22 and younger and their families living with developmental, intellectual, physical and social-emotional disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.*

Ismaline’s Story
Ismaline, age 6, has a very severe and debilitating form of cerebral palsy.  She had been doing well thanks to her mother’s care and intensive therapies when suddenly her health  declined.  Due to the care she required, her mother was unable to maintain a job, their car broke down and a mold condition developed in their apartment. Easter Seals stepped in to help along with volunteers and the support of many organizations.  Easter Seals worked with mom, new doctors, case managers, expert groups and community providers to ensure Ismaliene got the care she needed.

During her 8-week stay at the hospital, food, clothing and respite was provided for mom as well as therapies and toys for Ismaline. A better apartment was obtained for the family; their car was repaired and private nurses and health aides where arranged and trained to care for Ismaline at home. A few months later Ismaline was stronger and she was enrolled in a day center equipped to care for her and provide special education. Today Ismaline is doing beautifully. But if it were not for the advocacy, time and expertise of the Family Resources Project Ismaline and her family might not have been able to find the resources they needed.
